Matt received his Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from San Francisco State University. He continued his education in computer security, earning an Associates of Science degree in Computer Network Security and Administration, with honors. Matt has expertise in vulnerability scanning and mitigation, network monitoring, and workstation hardening.

Matt worked previously at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory as work station support with the advanced light source (ALS) and at the Location Labs by Avast as a desktop support specialist, infrastructure engineer, and InfoSec council leader.

Matt supports the EFF, the Tor Project, and the Freedom of the Press Foundation.

While also trying to build the perfect Arch Linux system, Matt enjoys training in Muay Thai, as well as reading and learning about mythology, lock picking, drawing, painting, and photography.
